It is with the aim of actively pursuing their efforts to reduce their carbon footprint and deploy eco-responsible practices that Camping Aventure Mégantic obtains GOLD certification in Sustainable Tourism from GreenStep, the largest certification program in the tourism and tourism industry. of the hotel industry in North America.
“We are extremely proud to have obtained this high level result, being the first in Canada and in our sector of activity to obtain it. We are also the first company in Quebec, all sectors combined, to obtain this distinction. We hope that several other companies will follow suit in order to demonstrate that we are a tourist destination that takes sustainable tourism to heart with globally recognized criteria. With this certification, we are recognized for being a truly sustainable and responsible company,” declared Julie Rouillard, co-owner of Camping Aventure Mégantic.
To obtain GOLD certification, Camping Aventure Mégantic had to satisfy several very specific criteria as part of an individual evaluation, which was carried out by a specialist in the evaluation of GreenStep. During the process, Camping Aventure Mégantic's practices were compared to a set of criteria falling into 16 different categories, recognized by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) and meeting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Among the sustainable actions that Camping Aventure Mégantic has undertaken, note the addition of high-efficiency furnaces running on biomass for its aquatic facilities and its main building as well as the addition of a adapted ready-to-camp 4 family seasons and a lever chair at the pool for people with reduced mobility.
